Join us in the unexpected adventure capital of Europe, Northern Wales! Wales is known for its wild, rich and beautiful landscapes with so much to explore. Become a volunteer and experience the full on lifestyle of a dog musher in the Adventure Capital!

Our Wales Husky Ranch is family owned and operated, it is the first and only outdoor activity provider that specialise in sled dog rides and experiences in Northern Wales. Their team consist of a range of breeds including Siberian Huskies, Scandinavians Hounds, Alaskan Huskies and German short Haired pointers along with feral cats and free-range chickens! On a 13 acres smallholding surrounded by beautiful landscapes like open moorland, forest, vast beaches and Snowdonia National park they made their home! Take this opportunity to learn and experience the lifestyle of a dog musher and all the jobs and rewards that come with it. You will help with sled dog related tasks, house and land maintenance, sled dog riding when visitors are there, supervising and socialising with the dogs during free run exercise and whelping when it comes around.  You will have many opportunities to experience the Welsh culture and language when visiting the village for provisions and socialising. This project is no easy holiday option but it is rewarding.

    Love of the outdoors and a passion for wildlife is a priority. You should not be fussy, picky or hypersensitive about cleaning as this is one of the main chores.  We will not tolerate smoking, alcohol or the use of drugs. Please remember that you are a guest, therefore, respecting the rules is essential.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    Volunteers are a great resource to the ranch. It is always important to show respect, take initiative, ask questions and to get involved in all the activities that are done at the project. You will take part in some of the following tasks:

    • Visitors: Volunteers are responsible for welcoming and talking to visitors for husky ride experiences and kitting them out in protective clothing prior to their ride.
    • Feeding & Hydrating
    • Cleaning Kennels, Changing dog beddings  & Maintaining dog room
    • Supervising and socialising with dogs, Cuddling and Grooming and bathing.
    • Puppy care and training and Whelping.
    • Kennel and Animal house maintenance
    • Planting trees, Work with visitors & Hiking with dogs.
  • TASKS AND DUTIES

    This experience gives volunteers the chance to become involved with huskies and other farm animals. Your volunteering will take place on a Husky Kennel owned by 2 well-known and profesional dog mushers. You will be involved in every aspect of the kennel. This will increase your knowldege and understanding on animal care. 

  • Requirements, Guidelines & Policies
    • Required to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks
    • NO SMOKING is allowed on the project site.
    • Strong work ethics are required: reliable, responsible, honest, good sense of humour, dependable, physically and mentally fit.
    • Age: 18+
    • Do not leave anything hazardous or any personal items around the dogs – out of curiosity, they may consume something toxic or harmful.
    • To make sure you complete your work to the appropriate standard
    • To speak up if you do not feel comfortable completing a task
    • Must love animals, keen on the outdoors, happy to brave the weather, and able bodied
    • No animal allergies

      The surrounding area; Mynydd Hireathog is an area of ‘Specific Scientific Interest’ and is the site of the ‘Haunted House of Denbigh Moor’ which can be seen and visited from the ranch. The Clwydian Range – ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ surrounds the local main towns of Denbigh and Ruthin.

      We have an abundance of wildlife surrounding us, including Red Kites, Osprey (Llyn Brenig) and Red Squirrels (Clocaenog Forest).
  • Accommodation
    A comfortable room within the family home will be provided, including bed linen. A large bathroom is shared with the family which includes a bath and shower. The water supplied to the property is via a mountain well, this is filtered within the property to ensure that it is safe for human consumption.

    Meals

    Joe and Mark take turns to prepare meals, however, the volunteer would be expected to help and perhaps prepare an occasional meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included. The volunteer will have the choice of cereal’s, toast and eggs (from our chickens) for breakfast, sandwiches or eggs for lunch and a cooked meal for dinner.

    Location

    Day 1 - Arrive in, Wales; 

    You will be picked up from the airport and from there transferred to your accommodation on the project site.

    For 4-12 weeks – volunteer, dogsled, groom & care huskies and other farm animals, work with visitors, create memories!

    For the coming 4-12 weeks you will have a great time working within the kennel and handling all daily activities that are designated to you. You get to do this while being surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges, nature and animals!

    Your last day – you will transfer back to the airport to take a flight back home. Of course, it is possible to extend your stay in Wales and travel around.
