The Experience

Take up this amazing opportunity to volunteer with horses, cows, sheep, goats and other animals at a rescue Sanctuary located in Santa Clarita, California! Become a volunteer now and work along an amazing team in their daily activities of rescuing abused, sick, neglected and old animals!

Though rescuing is a major objective of the project, they also have another key role which is grooming, caring and nurturing the animals back to their stronger selves. when the animals are fully healed, they then heal and give inspiration to the lives of abused children. All the while you will live in this amazing area of California!

The Project is very interested in having dedicated and committed volunteers to assist with the many tasks and activities at the sanctuary. For a stay of 4 weeks or more you’ll not only have the chance of working with horses but also working with a wide range of other animals such as; donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, llamas, peacocks, emus, cats and dogs. The project also prefers their volunteers to have an all-rounded experience therefore, you may also be tasked with; office work, grounds work, filling in the barnyard, assisting with field trips, and helping with any events or rescues happening at the time. The work can be physically demanding and it is by no means an easy ‘Holiday Option’!  It can be a bit challenging but the feeling that comes after is rewarding!   • RESPONSIBILITIES

    Volunteers are the back bone of the organization and therefore plays a vital role in achieving the project’s goal of caring and giving the much-needed love to horses, cows and other animals that have suffered severe abuse, neglection or are too old. The Project focuses a lot on rehabilitating these animals and once they are healed they then in turn heal and inspire the lives of the children that suffered similar fates. As a volunteer, you will at times get your hands dirty. If you are uncertain of what to do, you can ask an experienced volunteer or the coordinator for assistance.
     

    Your responsibilities will vary on a day to day basis. The project likes to have their interns have a well-rounded experience. Therefore, you may be involved in:

    • Office Work- this includes; filing, data entry, social media, etc.
    • Ground Work 
    • Filling in the Barnyard (that is; keeping the barnyard clean and hanging out with the animals)
    • Assisting the team when the project is open to the public
    • Assisting on Field Trips
    • Assisting with any rescues that the project may have at that time
    • Grooming, feeding, caring and nurturing the animals
    • Assisting with any errands that the project may need help with off the project site.

  • Tasks & Duties

    As a volunteer at the project you will need to be able to work in the outdoor California heat and be willing to learn how to handle the animals. Animal care would include food preparation, cage cleaning, habitat and tank construction or maintenance, and other medical responsibilities as appropriate to the skills learned by the intern.

     

  • Requirements, Guidelines & Policies
    • Required to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks, must be comfortable a little manual labor and getting your hands dirty, NO SMOKING is allowed on the property.
    • 25 years of age or older.
    • Strong work ethics are required: reliable, responsible, polite, self-sufficient, eager, honest, good sense of humor, dependable, physically and mentally fit.
    • No animal allergies,A love for animals and some general experience of caring for an animal is a must! Extreme Weather (heat & cold), dirt and living in a remote area must be something you can handle. 
    • Must read and agree to abide by guidelines and ethics of the project, Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and Good knowledge of the English
    • Patient and comfortable around animals. Should also have a valid driver’s license would be an asset and would greatly assist the project with offsite errands.

  • Itinerary & Details
    Day 1 - Arrive in the USA;
    You will arrive in LAX or Burbank where you will be met at the airport by your host parent. You’ll then be taken to your accommodation.
    For 4-8 weeks – Volunteer at a Horse Sanctuatry in the USA!
    For the next few weeks, you will help care for horses & various other animals, and assist with all the daily activities. 
    Your last day
    - after completing the project, your host parents will then transport you back to the airport where you will catch your flight back home or you can take the opportunity to travel through the US. Our staff will gladly help you to book any tours to see more of this great country. 


  • Accommodation

    You will be staying at an American host family where you will have a private room. The accommodation is clean with standard house furniture and accessories in it.

    Things to bring from home

    • Before traveling, be reminded that you'll need to pack clothes for cold temperatures as well as for summer for warm temperatures. Make sure that these clothes can get dirty. Make sure to bring gloves, a toque and warm socks with you as well.
    • Comfortable walking shoes are essential, and you should also pack a raincoat and some sun block.
    • Linen and towels will be provided at host family.

    Meals

    Meals are provided by your host parents.  You will receive 2 meals a day.

    Location

    This project is located in California, Santa Clarity. Central Park in Santa Clarita is only a 19 min drive away from the project and should be even relatively closer to your accommodation. On days off, take the opportunity to visit and enjoy the park, the city and all it has to offer! You will be about 1 drive from the beautiful beaches of Malibu and about 40 minutes from all the glamour and fame of L.A. and Hollywood!
