Ghana is situated in West Africa and has around 24 Million inhabitants. Compared to some other countries on the West African continent, Ghana is prosperous and stable. The Ghanaian culture is a nice mixture of different people who gives the country an ethnically diverse touch. The climate is tropical and experiences therefore no seasons, but rainy seasons.Ghana has hundreds of kilometres of beautiful and nice beaches which are situated in between fishing villages. In Cape Coast the volunteer gets to know about the importance Ghana in the last decades had in shipping out slaves to America. As a leftover the famous Castle can be visited. In the north of the country the participants can explore wildlife feeling or take a walk in the forest along the Togo border. Ghana experiences since the last years a rapid modernization, but of course has still the typical African touch. There are only some big cities in Ghana: Kumasi the traditional home of the Ashanti also known for their handicrafts and Accra - the capital and the cultural and commercial centre of the country. One of the Praktikawelten houses is situated in Accra and the volunteers can find there hip life, chop bars and as well gourmet restaurants. With its low-rise skyline the capital city is also called as well “Africa for beginners”.
